Laughing Lizard Lounge

1324 King St., Alexandria, VA
Old Town Alexandria
Do you need a dive bar in Alexandria? Laughing Lizard Lounge should fit the bill nicely. On the corner of King Street and N West Street, The Lizard is west of most of the bars in Old Town, just a few blocks from the King Street Metro.

Most of the action takes place upstairs, where two main rooms house the locals. Upon entrance, the main bar fits about five across, making it difficult to get drinks. A single pool table is awkwardly centered in wood paneled room, and patrons line the walls talking to their friends. A TV in the corner is usually tuned to the local sports stations.

Just down the hall is a much larger game room with two pool tables and a foosball table in pretty sad shape. A jukebox is kept happily fed by people listening to their favorite rock bands. The real flaw is the lack of a bar here, so you'll find yourself constantly wandering between rooms.

The downstairs is unused on quiet nights, but on weekends can have live music or DJ's. Expect the crowd to be testosterone heavy and cheering on their friends who are performing.

The crowd, as most of Old Town, is a mix of young and old. People tend to be pretty friendly, and have no problem starting a random conversation.

If you're hungry on the way out check out the Stage Door Deli downstairs, which offers some pretty good sandwiches.
