Holiday Walking Tour of D.C. (including the National Christmas Tree and a Special Holiday Reception at the DAR Museum)

12/6/2006
Although politics and the Redskins may be Washington’s most famous traditions, when it comes to Christmas, the nation’s capital offers a festive array of annual events. Get into the holiday spirit as we present a holiday season walking tour of Washington. Along our walk, we’ll learn interesting stories about the holiday times in D.C.’s past, visit famous, lesser known sights with seasonal decorations, and hear lots of interesting stories about Washington sites including the National Gallery, Botanical Garden, the old Woodward and Lothrup Building windows, lobbies of famous hotels, churches, and the White House area.

We will also get an extra special Christmas experience near the White House, listen to carols and pageants at the “Church of the Presidents” where you can buy the official White House holiday ornament, and even make a stop at the DAR Museum to hear carolers, taste cookies and chocolate, and take a quick tour of the antique-filled period rooms decorated for the holiday season. (If you’ve never been to this museum, you’re in for a real treat!)

The walk will conclude along the lawn by the White House. View the huge National Christmas Tree where we will see over 50 individually-decorated surrounding Christmas trees dedicated to each U.S. state and territory. Warm yourself by the blazing Yule log while holding tasty hot chocolate (individually sold at the site).

An optional post reception with a cash bar follows.
