Holiday Evening at the Smithsonian: Dinner, Jazz and Huge IMAX Screening of the Polar Express

Join TTD at the National Museum of Science and Natural History as we present a great way to celebrate the weekend with a great dinner, the smooth sounds of a live jazz band, and a blockbuster 3D special IMAX holiday film:

A) DINNER:

Choose from a wide array of international gourmet foods, served from three buffet tables plus a dessert table. You get your choice of one of the following buffet choices:

ASIAN STATION: with spring rolls, dim sum, assorted sushi, shrimp in black bean sauce, chicken teriyaki, fried rice, vegetable lo mein, and fortune cookies;

MEDITERRANEAN STATION: with 3 types of tapas (such as roasted peppers and feta cheese, marinated olives and mushrooms, or frittata, tomato and roasted vegetable stew), Caesar salad with grilled chicken or flank steak; and parmesan garlic bread; or

AMERICAN BOUNTY STATION: with roasted half lemon and rosemary Cornish game hen with natural pan jus, roasted bone-in loin of pork, yukon gold mashed potatoes with cheddar cheese, chive and sour cream, and other toppings.

PLUS DESSERT STATION:

The price includes one drink per person. After that, a cash bar is available.


B) JAZZ:

While dining. enjoy the classic tunes from some of the top jazz bands in Washington, D.C.. Partake in special holiday shopping during your free time without interrupting your listening pleasure.

C) IMAX FEATURE (beginning at 7 p.m.):THE POLAR EXPRESS: AN IMAX 3D EXPERIENCE i

This holiday themed film, based on the classic Caldecott medal-winning children's book written by Chris Van Allsburg, is directed by OscarŽ winner Robert Zemeckis and stars two-time Academy AwardŽ winner Tom Hanks. Using state-of-the-art CGI and performance capture technology to create a unique blend of realism and fantasy, it tells of a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole and embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe

The Samuel C. Johnson Theater features an IMAX three-dimensional (3D) large screen format theater, which incorporates a 15 perforations per frame, 70 millimeter (15/70) film projection system that runs at 24 frames per second. A state-of-the-art, digitally programmable audio system provides six channels of high fidelity, surround sound.
