An Evening at the Smithsonian: Dinner, Jazz and 3D IMAX Film: The Polar Express

Looking for a great way to get the weekend started? We've got just the ticket. Join us at the National Museum of Natural History as we enjoy an evening of great food and entertainment that includes a fabulous dinner, the smooth sounds of a live jazz band, and a great 3D IMAX film. Tonight, join your fellow professionals as we watch the IMAX movie "The Polar Express". This holiday themed film stars two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks and tells the tale of a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole and embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.
The evening includes:
A. Dinner: Food and beverages at the Jazz Cafe. The menu at the a la carte buffet includes:
- a rotating selection of appetizers
- the Chef's corner, featuring elegant entrees and side dishes. These selections rotate every week. For example, choices have and will include:
Prime rib, roast chicken, grilled salmon, pan-seared trout, glazed pork chops, rack of lamb, paella, broiled scallops, asparagus, broccolini, potatoes au gratin, blue cheese mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, black eyed peas with bacon, sugar snap peas, and more
- gourmet personal pizzas, served with salad
- Caesar salads and soups
- the quesadilla station, with your choice of fillings
- the dessert bar, featuring fabulous cakes and pastries
Cash bars feature a variety of cocktails and other beverages, including:
- fruit juices, soft drinks, bottled water
- martinis: original and flavored
- Latin cocktails: mojitos, margaritas, caipiroskas & more
- beer and wine
- coffee and tea (caffeinated and decaffeinated) are available at the buffet
The price includes one drink per person. After that, a cash bar is available.
B. Jazz: While dining, enjoy classic tunes from a live jazz band. The band will continue playing throughout the evening (before and after the IMAX film).
C. 3D IMAX Film (beginning at 7:35 p.m): The Samuel C. Johnson Theater features an IMAX three-dimensional (3D) large screen format theater, which incorporates a 15 perforations per frame, 70 millimeter (15/70) film projection system that runs at 24 frames per second. A state-of-the-art, digitally programmable audio system provides six channels of high fidelity, surround sound. This amazing theater provides you with 3D glasses. After donning your glasses, immerse yourself with the huge screen and masterful sound system as the Smithsonian puts you directly into the center of a different world.
Tonight's film: The Polar Express at 7:35 pm: This holiday themed film, based on the classic Caldecott medal-winning children's book written by Chris Van Allsburg, is directed by OscarŽ winner Robert Zemeckis and stars two-time Academy AwardŽ winner Tom Hanks. Using state-of-the-art CGI and performance capture technology to create a unique blend of realism and fantasy, it tells of a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole and embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.
